Activity 1

For this activity, the challenge is to persuade other people to "buy" a thing that we are given.
We are to create a video advert of a minute to try and get people to "buy" it.
What my group received is a normal stationary rubber band.

Our group consists of me(Brendon), Ronak and Shakti.

Our product name is the Supreme Elastic Band.

Our original plan is to target those children aged 8 to 12.

We came up with the following ideas to put in the video with their reasons:

  1. Sling Shot - Shoot at things, as children like to play.
  2. Shooting Device - Use it to directly shoot when u run out of things to shoot with.
  3. Hold things Together - When you need to fasten things together so that you will not lose them, as youths may be careless.
  4. Tie Hair - girls can use them when needed.
  5. Hang Things - to easily hang things around.
  6. Tie shoe lace - incase
  7. Spectacle band - to prevent spectacle from dropping when playing sports as youth like to play sports.
  8. Wristband - to act cool.
  9. Make Shapes - for fun and younger children when they are bored.
  10. Rubber Band Chain - like necklace to look nice
  11. Pendant - To have a nice pendant on a necklace.
  12. Hawk Eye - Use to symbolize the marvel character
  13. Torture Device - to torture people
  14. Face Threading - to remove facial hair to look better
  15. Hand Cuffs  - to cuff people and tie their hands together
  16. Musical instrument  - for interesting music

However, due to lack of video time and some difficulties face while filming, we removed some of the ideas and here are the final ideas that were in the video:

  1. sling shot
  2. Shooting Device
  3. Hold Things Together
  4. Tie Hair
  5. Hang Things
  6. Tie Shoe Lace
  7. Wristband
  8. Make Shapes
  9. Rubber Band Chain
  10. Torture device
  11. Face Threading
  12. Hawk Eye

After that, everyone gets to walk around and view all other videos from other groups, and each student get to vote which product they would like to "buy" .

Video: ( will be posted soon )

Out of aroud 30 people, we managed to get 10 votes, which is 1/3, which I feel is not that bad.

Improvement that can be made:

We did not have a cost to our rubber band, we should have included a cost.
After discussing, we felt that it should be priced at S$ 1.99

We also could have audio in the video. Due to the lack of time, we did not manage to put audio in the video, which makes it a bit weird.

After that, we were to evaluate another group's work.
We came up with the following criteria to evaluate: Sensibility, Creativity, Continuity, Aesthetics.

Sensibility means about the ideas, wether they are logical and feasible.
Creativity means the variety and type of ideas that they have.
Continuity is the flow and arrangement of the video.
Aesthetics is how nice and visually attractive to viewers.

Here is their group's video:  ( will be posted soon )

We scored them 3/5 for sensibility, 3/5 for creativity, 3/5 for continuity, 2/5 for aesthetics.

The reasons are:

Firstly, sensibility. They had some very sensible ideas but some ideas like the termite food and the paintbrush were not exactly logical.
Secondly, creativity. Some ideas were creative like the projectile but most of their ideas were undeveloped and could have been expanded.
Thirdly, continuity. Their flow was there but it did not have many clear components in both the video and the text. There were not many clear categories within their video or their text.
Fourthly, aesthetics. They had a nice arrangement of their picture but other than that they were sorely lacking in any impact. Also, their presentation was fast and hard to catch.
